I’m a fifty something male from the southern end of the UK. I have spent the last few years rebuilding my life after a colossal melt down. With incredible support from my family and friends I managed to move on from dark times
I have ridden motorcycles since I was 6 years old and enjoy every second of it, be it a huge overland adventure or just 6 hours riding a moped home from Birmingham in the rain. (yes I did that)
I work as a SCL Fitter in London. I’m not a rich man and my travel has to be done on a budget as, like most people, I never have enough money and bills need to be paid. So most of my kit is second hand and I save like a man possessed to get funds together for my bike, kit and the expenses of travel. In 2017 I sold my Honda Dominator and picked up a Honda XR400. The idea being that the 400 would be better in the desert and easier to pick up from the inevitable spills in the sand. The problem with that change of bike is that I had spent loads prepping the Dommie for the trip. So with the 400 in the stable I began to prep it with new racks for carrying the throw over luggage, Barkbuster handlebar protection, new TKC80 tyres and 4 inner tubes. A full engine service and a GPS to mount. All of this, allied to the problems of home ownership meant that the trip had to be postponed by six months.
